Performing since early childhood in local dance reviews and church choirs, her first public performance was at the age of 4 when she sang "What Child Is This" at her local church. She auditioned for the Disney Channel's "Mickey Mouse Club" series at 8 years old in Atlanta. Too young for the series, but too talented to dismiss, a producer on the show helped Britney secure an agent in New York City, where she spent the next three summers studying at the renowned Off-Broadway Dance Center and at the Professional Performing Arts School.

She also began appearing in national commercials and Off-Broadway shows including the 1991 comedy, "Ruthless," based on the 1956 thriller "The Bad Seed." "At 10 I was playing this really bad child who seems real sweet but she's evil too. It was so much fun," she recalls.

Britney Spears' career really started when she was 11 years old when she was part of the Walt Disney Mickey Mouse Club. Among the cast members of the children's show was the then 12-year-old Justin Timberlake and Joshua "JC" Chasez, who would go on to become two-fifths of the teen pinup band 'N Sync. Other talented alumni to emerge from the cast are Keri Russell of Felicity fame, singer Christina Aguilera, Nita Booth (Miss Virginia 1998), and Ryan Gosling from Young Hercules.

After two years performing on the popular children's TV show filmed in Orlando, Britney returned to Kentwood Louisiana, when the MMC was cancelled, for one completely normal year of high school at age 14. "It was fun for awhile but I started getting itchy to get out again and see the world," she says.

She started commuting between New York and Lousiana for auditions. Finally, she got an audition for an all girl group and she got the job. Her agent however encouraged her that she would be better out on her own, so she dropped the group and went solo.

In 1998, she released her debut album for Jive Records, Baby One More Time. The album would become a huge success and it would result in her becoming youngest artist to have a certified 12X platinum album.

Her success continued in 2000 with the release of her follow up, Oops..I Did It Again which debuted at number 1 by selling 1.3 million copies in it's first week.
